Great Blue Heron Reserve
The reserve on the Vedder River consists of 325 acres of forest and wetlands, located on the only un-dyked flood plain along the Vedder River. It is known for the large breeding colony of Pacific Great Blue Herons (about 90 nests) and a wide variety of wildlife and vegetation including the following species: Western Painted Turtle, Bald Eagle, and Salish Sucker. We will explore some of the trails, which include boardwalks, a lookout tower, viewing blinds and lookout points.
Time: 6:30 to 8:30 pm
Directions: Take Hwy 1 east to exit 109 Yale Rd to Sumas Prairie Road and go to the end, 5200 Sumas Prairie Rd.
